New gutters with gutter guards: what it costs and what you get

We take down your old gutters, check the fascia behind them, form new seamless aluminum gutters on-site for each run, then fit stainless micro-mesh guards over them before we leave. New gutters and guards together run $28–$35 per linear foot, downspouts included. That is less than the two bought separately (new gutters $17–$25, guards on existing gutters $12–$20 per foot), because guards on brand-new gutters skip the cleanout and reseal.

Replacing the gutters is the easiest time to guard them

One crew, one visit

The guards go on right after the new gutters are hung, so there is no second appointment and no second trip to the roof.

Guards over new gutters, not old seams

Retrofit guards go over gutters we first have to clean and reseal. On a replacement, the mesh covers brand-new seamless runs with nothing to clean out.

Sized and pitched before it’s covered

We size each run to the roof above it and set the pitch toward the downspouts, then water-test it before any guard goes on.

Clear from the first winter

Sacramento’s leaf drop runs November into January, right as the rain arrives. New gutters with guards go into that season empty and stay that way.

From measurement to water test

Replacement on its own usually takes one to two days; your quote gives the schedule for both.

  1. Step 1: Free on-site measurement

We measure every run, look at the fascia and roof edge, count downspouts and note which trees drop what onto the roof.

  2. Step 2: One written quote for both

Gutter size, color, downspouts and the guard product are written into a single quote with a per-foot price and a total.

  3. Step 3: Tear-out and fascia check

Old gutters and downspouts come down. Rotted fascia is repaired before any new hanger goes in, and it is itemized if your house needs it.

  4. Step 4: New seamless gutters

Aluminum is formed on-site to each run, hung on hidden hangers about every two feet and pitched about a quarter inch per 10 feet.

  5. Step 5: Guards, water test, cleanup

Guards are cut and fitted to the new runs, we run water through every downspout, and we haul away the old gutters and scrap.

When both makes sense, and when it doesn’t

New gutters and guards together is the right call for a lot of Sacramento homes, not all of them.

Do both

Your gutters are worn out and trees hang over the roof

Rust along several runs, seams that leak, gutters pulling off the fascia, or a system past 20 years, combined with oaks, sycamores or pines near the house. Replacing and guarding at once is the natural time.

Repair or replace? How to tell
Guards only

Your gutters are sound and drain well

If the gutters are tight, sized right and pitched right, new gutters add cost without adding much. Guards alone run $12–$20 per foot, with the gutters cleaned and resealed first.

Gutter guards on existing gutters
Gutters only

Nothing much lands on your roof

On open lots with no trees close to the house, guards have little to block. New gutters on their own are the better spend, and guards can be added later if that changes.

Gutter replacement on its own
Repair

One leak or one sagging run

A single bad seam, loose hanger or damaged section usually needs a repair, not a new system. Minor repairs run $150–$400.

New gutters and gutter guards: questions

How much do new gutters with gutter guards cost in Sacramento?

New seamless gutters and gutter guards installed together run $28–$35 per linear foot, downspouts included. For 150 feet of gutter that works out to $4,200–$5,250, and most homes land between $3,600 and $10,500. On their own, new gutters run $17–$25 per foot and guards on existing gutters run $12–$20 per foot. Fascia repair is quoted separately if your house needs it.

Is it cheaper to add gutter guards when I replace my gutters?

Yes. Guards cost less per foot when they go on with new gutters: they are fitted to brand-new, empty gutters, so there is no cleanout or resealing, and the crew is already on the roof. Guards on existing gutters run $12–$20 per foot. If the budget is tight, you can replace the gutters now and add guards later at that rate.

What gutter guard do you put on new gutters?

Our typical installation is LeafBlaster Pro, Gutterglove’s contractor-only stainless micro-mesh line. On some jobs we install a standard micro-mesh guard instead, and your quote names the product. We are an independent installer, not owned by or affiliated with Gutterglove, Inc.

What size gutters will I get?

We install seamless .032-gauge aluminum in 5-inch or 6-inch K-style, sized to the roof area that drains into each run. Large or steep roof planes and runs that overflow in winter storms are the usual reasons to go to 6-inch.

What warranties come with new gutters and guards?

On LeafBlaster Pro installs, Gutterglove provides a 40-year limited, transferable warranty on the guard parts (10 years in areas it defines as coastal). The manufacturer does not warrant installation, so our Workmanship Guarantee covers the installation of the gutters and the guards: if anything we install underperforms, we come back and make it right.

Do you take away the old gutters?

Yes. Replacement starts with taking down the old gutters and downspouts and checking the fascia boards that were hidden behind them. Rotted fascia is repaired before new hangers go in and is itemized in your quote if your house needs it. We haul away the old gutters and scrap when the job is done.

Will I still have to clean gutters with guards on them?

Not inside the gutter. Leaves, acorns and needles stay on top of the mesh and mostly blow or rinse off. Under heavy oak or pine canopy, expect to brush the mesh surface now and then, especially at inside corners below roof valleys and after the spring catkin and pollen season.
