How Instant Gutter Guard Quotes Work: Pricing a Sacramento Home From Its Address

An instant gutter guard quote starts with your address. Software finds your roof in aerial imagery and property data, measures each gutter run and counts downspouts, then applies the contractor's own per-foot rates for your story count and guard type. You see a price range. A short site visit confirms the footage before the final price.

Most Sacramento homeowners who ask about gutter guards want a number before they book anyone. Some gutter companies can now give one from the address alone, in seconds.

This guide is written by Measured Bid. Measured Bid is estimating software for exterior contractors. Teams price jobs from an address in the dashboard, and homeowners get a price range from a widget on the contractor's website. Both use the contractor's own pricing. Sacramento Gutter Guard is one of the companies that uses Measured Bid.

Below is how an address turns into a gutter measurement and what moves a gutter guard price up or down in Sacramento. It also explains why you see a range and what the person who comes out to your house still has to check. The accuracy numbers are included with the misses, so you can decide how much to trust an online price.

Key numbers

  • $12 to $20 per linear foot: Sacramento Gutter Guard's published installed price for premium micro-mesh guards.
  • $1,600 to $6,000: the whole-home range on the same pricing page, for homes with 130 to 300 feet of gutter.
  • 14.2%: the median footage error when Measured Bid's quoted gutter footage was checked against 9 invoiced jobs from a Sacramento-region gutter company. The mean error was 16.2%.
  • ±10%, ±15% or ±25%: Measured Bid's default price range width for high, medium and low confidence measurements. Each contractor can change these.
  • 25 to 35%: roughly how much a second story adds to a guard install, per this site's published guard pricing.

How does an address-based gutter guard quote work?

On a contractor's website that uses Measured Bid, the steps look like this.

  1. Type your address. Pick it from the suggestions. The tool only prices homes inside the company's service area.
  2. Confirm the house. You check that the aerial view shows your home and the right lot.
  3. Answer a few questions. You choose what you need: guards on your existing gutters, new gutters with guards, new gutters only, downspouts only, or a cleaning. If the company offers more than one guard, you pick one. You give the number of stories. You can also ask for the old gutters to come off first, or include a detached garage or shop.
  4. The software measures the house. It finds the roof edges that drain water off the house and measures each one in feet. Then it counts the downspouts. This takes seconds.
  5. You see a price range. It uses the contractor's own rates for your story count and guard type.
  6. You decide whether to send it. If the range works for you, you send your contact details. The contractor gets the lead with the measurements attached. If the company has added a booking link, you can pick a visit time right away.

Two details are worth knowing. The range appears before any contact form, so you can leave with the number and think it over. The tool also shows the contractor's name and colors. You may never see the Measured Bid name on it.

Some houses don't get a price. If the house can't be measured from above, or the address sits outside the company's service area, you get a visit request form in place of a price. You can still book a visit from that form.

What does the software measure on your house?

Measured Bid starts from aerial roof data. Each roof plane in that data has its own slope and direction. A gutter run goes wherever a plane drains off the house. Edges that drain onto a lower roof are generally left out, although a high upper edge above a lower roof can still count.

Each run gets a number and a length on the map. The homeowner or the contractor's team can uncheck a run that won't get a gutter, or draw in one that was missed. The price updates when they do. Roofs with many sections also get a small allowance for corners and returns.

Downspouts follow a simple rule. Each separate gutter gets at least one, with another for every set number of feet. Every house gets at least two. Pipe length works out to about 10 feet per story plus 2 feet for the elbows and extension.

Stories come from your answer. On some plans the software also reads the story count from county property records when they are available.

For scale, Measured Bid's sample one-story house measures 118 feet of gutter in four runs, with five downspouts and 60 feet of downspout pipe. Most Sacramento homes have more gutter than that.

You can run the same measurement on your own home with Measured Bid's free gutter calculator. It shows each numbered run with its length, plus the downspout count. It shows no prices and needs no account. It is useful when you already have a quote and want to check the footage on it.

What drives the price of gutter guards in Sacramento?

Every gutter guard price in Sacramento comes down to a short list of inputs. An address-based quote measures some of them. The rest come from your answers and the contractor's own settings.

Feet of gutter

Footage is the biggest single input. Sacramento Gutter Guard prices guard jobs per linear foot of gutter, and its published pricing page lists $12 to $20 per foot installed for premium micro-mesh. For most Sacramento homes that comes to $1,600 to $6,000 for the whole house. A 1,500 square foot ranch has far less gutter than a 3,000 square foot two-story, so the same rate produces very different totals.

Stories

A second story means taller ladders and more time on every upper run. This site's published guard pricing puts the two-story premium at roughly 25 to 35 percent. Address-based estimates handle it with a separate rate for each story. On a two-story house, the porch roof and any first-floor roof sections are priced at the one-story rate, since those edges sit at first-floor height.

Two-story homes are common in Natomas, Elk Grove, Folsom and Roseville, and many have a porch roof with its own gutter.

Guard type

Guard type sets the per-foot rate. This site's gutter guard cost per linear foot guide lists installed screens at $4 to $7 per foot and reverse-curve guards at $8 to $12. The same guide puts LeafFilter at $22 to $34 per foot in the Sacramento market.

New gutters and old gutter removal

If your gutters are sagging or too small for the roof, guards alone won't fix the drainage. The job then becomes new gutters with guards, and usually removal of the old ones. Sacramento Gutter Guard lists full gutter replacement at $17 to $25 per foot installed, or $2,500 to $7,500 for most homes. Most replacement quotes include tear-out and disposal. In an address-based quote, removal is its own line priced per foot, and it turns on when you say the old gutters should come off first.

Downspouts

Downspouts are counted from the measured runs, then priced per downspout for each story or by the foot of pipe. A missing or undersized downspout usually shows up in winter, often in the first big storm of the season. This site's atmospheric river gutter prep guide covers what those storms do to a gutter system.

Job minimums

Every contractor has a floor price that covers driving out and setting up. Measured Bid lets a contractor set a general job minimum and a separate one for guards-only jobs. A small single-story home or a short back run can land at the minimum even when the footage times the rate comes out lower. If a price range looks high for a small job, the minimum is usually the reason.

Steep roofs

Contractors can add a multiplier for roofs steeper than a slope they choose. The aerial data includes the slope of each roof plane, so the quote can apply it without asking you. Measured Bid publishes the full list of gutter and guard price settings a contractor fills in.

Why is an online gutter quote a price range instead of one number?

An aerial measurement can miss, so the price shows a low and a high number. Homeowners using a Measured Bid widget always see a range for their own house.

Every estimate gets a confidence level, and the confidence level sets how wide the range is. These are Measured Bid's defaults. Each contractor can change them.

Measured Bid's default price range by confidence level
ConfidenceDefault rangeWhen it applies
High±10%Sharp imagery on a simple gable or hip roof that the footprint explains
Medium±15%Complex roofs with many planes, which covers most houses tested so far, or an irregular footprint
Low±25%Less than 90% of the roof modeled, imagery five or more years old, or a roof the model couldn't resolve

The range widens when the data is weaker. If the imagery is five or more years old, the estimate shows the imagery date. Heavy trees and missing roof sections also lower the confidence level.

The range also carries the contractor's minimums and add-ons, so it moves when you change your answers. It becomes a final price once the footage is confirmed on site.

How accurate are gutter measurements from aerial imagery?

Measured Bid tested its gutter footage against 9 invoiced gutter jobs from a gutter company in the Sacramento region. The quoted footage had a median absolute error of 14.2% and a mean absolute error of 16.2%. Four of the 9 jobs came in within 10%. Six came in short and three came in long.

The misses had causes you can check. Two houses had old imagery, from 2015 and 2018. Three had only about 88 to 90 percent of the roof modeled. The three two-story homes came in 38.5%, 26.6% and 3.8% short. The largest miss was a two-story house with 2015 imagery and roof hidden under trees.

There are two limits on these numbers. The same 9 jobs were used to tune the engine, so new houses may miss by more. Nine jobs is also a small sample from one region. Measured Bid lists every job with its imagery year and confidence level in its published accuracy test, and plans to test 30 or more new jobs before making any broader claim.

An address-based range tells you whether the job fits your budget before anyone visits. Material orders and the signed price should come from a confirmed measurement.

Which Sacramento homes are harder to measure from above?

Sacramento has a long-standing reputation as the City of Trees. The City's Urban Forest Plan, adopted on June 24, 2025, sets a goal of 35 percent tree canopy cover by 2045. More canopy also means more roof hidden from an aerial camera.

Roofs under heavy tree cover

Valley oaks in Carmichael and Fair Oaks hang over rooflines. So do pines in the foothill suburbs, along with London planes and sycamores on older streets in Land Park and East Sacramento. Aerial data can't see roof under heavy trees, and missing roof shows up as missing footage. That is one reason address-based estimates run short more often than long.

The same trees decide which guard you need. This site's Carmichael and Fair Oaks heritage oak guide covers what that canopy drops through the year.

Oak canopy hanging over the roofline of a Sacramento-area home, the kind of tree cover that hides roof edges from aerial imagery

Two-story homes with porch and garage roofs

A two-story house often has lower roofs that need their own gutters. Two-story homes were still the weak spot in the accuracy test. All three came in short, so on these houses the site visit is more likely to add footage than remove it.

Additions newer than the imagery

An ADU, a patio cover or a garage conversion built after the imagery was taken won't be in the measurement. Check the imagery date if the estimate shows one, and mention any recent work when you send the form.

Tall one-story roofs with short upper gutters

Where an upper gable ends above a lower roof, a short gutter can sit near the peak. Measured Bid doesn't model these yet. A homeowner or the contractor's team can draw them in on the map.

What does the site visit still confirm?

An address-based measurement gives you a fast, consistent starting number. The visit is where the contractor checks what the camera can't see and turns the range into a written price.

Ask the contractor what they found and whether it changed the number. Sacramento Gutter Guard's pricing page says the price it quotes is the price you pay. If the crew finds something that wasn't visible at the walkthrough, such as rotted wood behind a gutter, the scope change gets approved in writing first.

Which gutter guard type works best under Sacramento trees?

The measurement doesn't know what falls on your roof, and the guard choice depends on it. Valley oak leaves and catkins, pine needles, sycamore seed balls and spring pollen each test a guard in a different way.

Pine needles slide through standard screens and get stuck in brush inserts. This site's guide to gutter guards for pine needles explains why foothill homes end up with stainless micro-mesh.

The size of the mesh opening matters too. Very fine mesh can cake over with oak and pine pollen during the dry months. The micro-mesh micron size guide recommends openings of roughly 275 to 550 microns for Sacramento canopy.

Winter storms are the other test. During an atmospheric river, a guard has to take in water fast enough that it doesn't sheet over the front edge. Ask how the guard handles heavy rain on your roof slope, and whether the installer water-tests the runs before leaving.

If you want someone to look at your trees and roof in person, Sacramento Gutter Guard offers gutter guard installation in Sacramento with a free on-site measurement.

How should you compare gutter guard quotes?

Two quotes can only be compared if they price the same job. Line them up on these points before you look at the totals.

  1. Footage. Ask for the total feet of gutter and, if possible, the runs. If the footage differs, ask each company which runs it counted.
  2. Guard product. Get the brand, the material and the published mesh opening. A per-foot price means little without the product behind it.
  3. Stories. Check that lower roofs are priced at the lower rate and the second story at the higher one.
  4. Gutter work. Confirm whether the guards go on your existing gutters or on new ones, and whether removal and disposal are included.
  5. Downspouts. Compare the count, and whether any are being added, moved or extended.
  6. Prep and repairs. Ask whether cleaning, resealing and re-hanging loose sections happen before the guards go on.
  7. Warranty. Get the product warranty and the workmanship guarantee in writing.
  8. Range or written price. Know which number is an online price range and which is a written price after a visit. Compare written prices with written prices.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a gutter guard quote without anyone coming to my house?

Yes, you can get a price range without a visit. Some gutter companies put an address-based quote tool on their website. You type your address and answer a few questions about stories and guard type. The tool measures the gutter runs from aerial roof data and shows a price range at the company's own rates. A site visit is still needed before a final written price.

How do gutter companies measure a house from an address?

They use software that reads aerial roof data and property data for the address. Measured Bid, for example, reads the roof planes and measures each edge where water drains off the house, in feet. It counts downspouts from the measured runs and uses the story count to pick the rate. Edges that drain onto a lower roof are generally left out. The contractor confirms the footage on site before the final price.

What software do gutter companies use to give instant quotes?

Gutter companies that give instant quotes use address-based estimating software. Measured Bid is one example. It is estimating software for exterior contractors. Teams price jobs from an address in the dashboard, and homeowners get a price range from a widget on the contractor's website. Both use the contractor's own pricing. Besides gutters and gutter guards, it prices exterior painting, siding, roofing, permanent lighting, Christmas lights and pressure washing.

How much do gutter guards cost for a Sacramento home?

Gutter guards for a typical Sacramento home cost about $1,600 to $6,000 installed. That is the whole-home range Sacramento Gutter Guard publishes for premium micro-mesh at $12 to $20 per linear foot, on homes with 130 to 300 feet of gutter. Two-story homes cost more per foot because of ladder work. Full gutter replacement is priced separately, at $17 to $25 per foot on the same pricing page. A site visit sets the final price.

Why is an online gutter quote a price range instead of one number?

An online gutter quote is a range because an aerial measurement can miss. In Measured Bid, every estimate gets a confidence level, and the default range is plus or minus 10% at high confidence, 15% at medium and 25% at low. The range widens when the imagery is five or more years old or less than 90% of the roof is modeled, often because of trees. A site visit turns the range into one written price.

How accurate are gutter measurements from aerial imagery?

Aerial gutter measurements are a useful starting point that still need an on-site check. In Measured Bid's published test on 9 invoiced gutter jobs from a Sacramento-region company, quoted footage had a median absolute error of 14.2% and a mean absolute error of 16.2%. Four of the 9 were within 10%. Six ran short and three ran long. The biggest misses came from old imagery and partly modeled roofs, and two-story homes also ran short. The same jobs helped tune the engine, so new houses may miss by more.

Does a 2-story home cost more for gutter guards?

Yes, a two-story home costs more per foot for gutter guards. Crews need taller ladders and more setup time on the upper runs. Sacramento Gutter Guard's published cost guides put the two-story premium at roughly 25 to 35 percent. In an address-based estimate, porch roofs and other first-floor roof sections on a two-story house are priced at the one-story rate, so the total increase depends on how much gutter sits at second-story height.

What gutter guard type works best for Sacramento trees?

Stainless steel micro-mesh works best under most Sacramento trees because it stops pine needles and oak leaves that get past screens and reverse-curve guards. Sacramento Gutter Guard's guides recommend a mesh opening of roughly 275 to 550 microns. That size blocks debris but lets oak and pine pollen wash through instead of caking on the screen. Homes in foothill fire zones should also choose a non-combustible metal guard.

What should a gutter guard quote include?

A gutter guard quote should list the total feet of gutter and the price per foot for each story. It should name the guard brand and material. Check that it states the downspout count and whether old gutters are removed or replaced. Ask whether cleaning and minor repairs happen before the guards go on. Get the product warranty and the workmanship guarantee in writing, and compare written prices with written prices.

Will the price change after the site visit?

The price can change after the site visit, up or down. An online range is built from an aerial measurement and your answers, and the visit checks the real footage and the condition of the gutters. Common reasons for a change are roof hidden under trees, porch or garage roofs that were missed, an addition newer than the imagery, or damaged gutters that need replacing. Ask the contractor which line changed and why before you sign.
